![]() You will now see the ebay directory that you just created displayed in the members.aol.com window. Double-click on it or click the OPEN button to open this directory up so we can upload some pictures into it. ![]() Now the ebay directory is open. You can tell because it says kruggles/ebay towards the top. Now click on the UPLOAD button. Note: almost all the other buttons are grayed out at this point. That is because there are no files in the directory yet so there is not much you can do at this stage except upload a file or create another directory inside of the ebay directory.
This is a little bit confusing at first. What you will be doing here is giving the picture a name that it will be stored as on AOL. Place the cursor in the REMOTE FILENAME box and type in a name. (You should know which picture you intend to upload before giving it a name so you don't confuse it with another picture. You don't want to name your lamp picture something like clock). Try and stick with the name it already has on the hard drive or give it a name that makes sense to you. You must enter a name here to continue. My example is saucer.jpg because that is the same name that this picture already has stored on my hard drive.Note: you should stick to jpg formatted pictures as a rule. They use the smallest file size and are compatible with all browsers. Gif files are almost always larger than jpg files and are limited to 256 colors. Jpg files can display millions of colors at 16 bits per pixel and higher. Jpg is currently the best file type to use for photographs you want to display on the internet. BMP files will only display in AOL and Internet Explorer, not Netscape. And since they are not compressable, they are very large files, usually 10 times or more larger than a slightly compressed jpg file. (File size meaning the size in bytes, not the image display size that is measured in pixels). And TIF or TIFF files will not display in any browsers. Make sure your pictures are converted to JPG format before uploading. Almost all image editing programs can do that.
