Dear School District Superintendent I seek an upper elementary/high school science/math and/or science teaching position in your rural district.
I bring seven years of bush teaching experience to the classroom and have taught middle elementary through high school subjects in the remote Athabascan village of Venetie as well as the Inupiaq Eskimo settlement of Selawik.   Although my specialties are the sciences and math, I have had a multitude of opportunities to teach a great many other subjects such as Native American History and Yearbook.  In addition, just into this school year I was placed into an administrative/teaching since our full-time principal had to leave us on medical leave.  Being the person in charge at our site has brought many responsibilities and challenges as well as the rewards derived from a school that operates efficiently and resounds with learning and laughter.

My previous positions as a science/math teacher and football coach in rural Oregon, and my two year volunteer service as a science teacher for the United States Peace Corps greatly add to my cross-cultural and life experiences that I can bring to enrich a classroom and community.  My Peace Corps experience in the Fiji Islands gave me broad exposure to several different cultures and languages as well as many wonderful experiences to enrich my classroom.  In the two years I was stationed in this remote area of the world as an ?ambassador? of the USA I worked tirelessly as a science teacher and library organizer immersed in the community, totally removed from other Americans.

I believe that all students can learn and have had ample experience with children with special needs as well as academically gifted within the same classroom setting.  My philosophy leans toward the old fashioned principles of hard work, respect, and structure but is tempered with flexibility, tolerance, and unconditional regard for all people.  I believe in respect for elders, involvement in community, and talking with children, not at them. My teaching style is warm, dynamic, and informal and I am a team player.  I begin new concepts from the point of view and experience of my students then expand into uncharted territory.

My resume contains pertinent educational and professional information and references are available.  I look forward to the opportunity of meeting with you to discuss how I might meet the needs of your district, community, and children.

Sincerely
Cory V Michaud
