Career Related Experience
1993 to Present John Fredson School, Yukon Flats School
District, Venetie, AK
Grades 7 - 12 Math/Science/Generalist and Principal Teacher
At John Fredson School I teach all areas, particularly science and
math, as well as such diverse subjects as computer skills, graphic design,
and careers. For the past six years I have organized two student
trips to Disneyland, and another to South Central Alaska. My yearbook
class published the first full-color yearbook in our school's history and
it was accomplished in its entirety on site using computer technology.
In my present position as principal/teacher I have had the opportunity
of greatly expanding my knowledge in and appreciation for administration
of small schools and what it takes to keep an active community involvement.
1991-1993 Burnt River School District, Unity Oregon
Grades 7 - 12 Math/Science Teacher
At Burnt River School I taught biology, chemistry, earth science, physics,
algebra two, geometry, drivers education, as well as all junior high science.
For two seasons I was the head football coach and led our team to a league
championship. In addition, I was the school’s athletic director and
sophomore class advisor
1988 - 90 United States Peace Corps, Fiji Islands, South Pacific
Secondary Science Teacher
As a certified Peace Corps volunteer teacher I had the privilege to
teach biology, chemistry, and physics to students of East Indian and Fijian
cultures for whom English was their second language. In my classes
and laboratory sessions I frequently used local materials to demonstrate
concepts. I often used my fluency in Hindi to facilitate learning
and to motivate students. In addition, I created a school library
through American donations and devised an efficient filing and retrieval
system.
Work Experience
1986 - 88 United States Geological Survey, Billings, MT.
My duties included office work, stream flow computations, carpentry, and
stream surveying.
1984 - 1985 Martel Construction, Bozeman, MT
My duties were construction labor, labor foreman, equipment operator, and
carpenter.
