January 23, Intel to move to 0.18

Intel will start using there 0.18-micron process technology this year in all there microprocessors exceeding 600 MHz, but the technology could lead to powerful processors in the 1-gigahertz range by the end of next year.

Intel said the first 0.18-micron chips will be launched this summer. Most likely to be used in there upcoming Coppermine Processors.

January 15, K7 release Dates

The official Release date for the K7 will be 23rd June,

If correct, will mean the chip will just meet AMD's original first half of 1999 release schedule.

The K7 will ship with either 512K or 1MB of off-chip L2 cache. As for the speeds the new processor will ship at, has not yet been revieled

January 11, Katmai CPU Officially named Pentium III

Today Monday 11, the chip giant Intel, has officially renamed its next-generation Pentium chip the Pentium III. Previously the chip was referred to the processor by the code-name Katmai.

The new Pentium chip is expected to debut in Late Febuary, or Early March at speeds of 450 MHz and 500 MHz.

When Intel releases the 450-MHz version of its next-generation Pentium chip, it is expected to cost less than the current fastest Pentium II processor costs now.

The company is also expected to drop prices on its existing lineup of Pentium II processors, sources said.

The Pentium III will feature 70 new instructions that provide enhanced 3-D graphics, audio, and video capabilities. Sources said Intel will release a 533-MHz version of Pentium III later this year.

Also the Pentium III Xeon was annouced to be relesed after the Pentium III and will be avalibale at 500MHz + with level2 cache sizes of 512k, 1Mb, 2Mb
