I Bought myself a new toy

It all started when I bought my second computer, a Philips NMS8250, MSX2. I  liked programming and with my new computer I really got busy. First making some simple games and programs but after a while I started with bigger and more useful programs. I decided I had to have a name for my one-man software company. I thought up a lot of names and used some of them. Here's a list of names I previously used :

- TechMation
- TechniSoft
- TechnoSoft
- ASCIISoft
- Bonanza Software Corporation (I was in a funny mood)
- CyberDyne (Yes I saw the Terminator II movie !)
But I finally decided it should be CyberSoft. It had a nice ring to it..

The ultimate fiasco

The first thing I wanted to make was a platform-based game called Captain M (M for MSX). I started to draw some nice graphics and stuff but lost interest and shut the project down. The same with an 'Up Periscope' clone I wanted to make. This should have been a submarine simulation game but the project went nowhere.

The 'modem disease'

After a while I got my hands on a modem which was really fun. Now I could call a Bulletin Board System and download all the software I could dream of. Unfortunately I was calling Bulletin Board Systems almost all the time which resulted in a HUGE telephone bill. That's when I decided to start my own BBS and let other people call ME instead of me calling them. It was to be called CyberSpace BBS.

The beginning

Shortly after my BBS went online I got a call from a friend of mine. He lived in the same town as I did and also had a one-man software company called Pigeonsoft. He later started a disk magazine called Defender. On this disk magazine CyberSoft published it's first product : The Window Replayer 1.0 ; a music replayer for songs made with Moonblaster.

Products :

Following up on the replayer CyberSoft had to release something new, something nobody had ever tried. This was to be MegaTerm. The first GUI based terminal emulator for the MSX. After that came other quite original stuff not previously seen on the MSX system including the following :

- Window Replayer 1.0
a windows look-a-like replayer for moonblaster 1.4 songs
- MegaTerm 1.0
a windows 95 look-a-like terminal program to call Bulletin Board Systems
- Graphic Replayer 1.0
a replayer for Moonblaster for Moonsound songs
- The CyberSpace BBS demo part I
a promotion demo for CyberSpace BBS
- MegaTerm RS 232 1.1
the same program as MegaTerm 1.0 but for use with external modems linked with
an MSX via a RS232 interface.
- The CyberSpace BBS demo part II
the second promotion demo for CyberSpace BBS
- MSX Windows 98 1.0, 1.1
  a Windows95 look-a-like graphical shell around DOS2 for use with a harddisk.

All programs sold very well. Most of them are currently Public domain. But you can read all about it in the MSX section of this page.

Musica del futuro :

At a fair in Almelo I met Robert. He is currently the CyberSoft composer. Whenever I need some nice tunes to support a demo or something he composes it for me. The music in both CyberSpace BBS demo's was made by him.

Current activities :

Currently CyberSoft is still working on MSX Windows98. Further updating it and making more and more applications for it. It will never become a real multitasking operating system like Windows95/98/NT but that was never the intention.

Unfortunately CyberSpace BBS is no longer on line. This is due to a lack of users that actually logon. Why call a BBS when you can get everything you need and more on the internet ? So I pulled the plug on it. Alas, it couldn't be helped .......
