I haven't gotten many questions about CyberSoft programs yet. But that doesn't mean all CyberSoft programs are bug free. I don't think anybody can program totally bug free. I sure know Microsoft can't :-).
---
The biggest bug in your program has yet to be discovered !
---
If debugging is removing bugs then programming must be the art of inserting
them.
Maybe
your problem is among the ones below. If not please mail me. I've also
included some tips and tricks. Just take a look at it.
MSX Windows98 (dutch version) :
There were a few bugs in version 1.1 released at Zandvoort 1998. Known problems :
- Desktop icons had the nasty habit of disappearing after returning from a help file.
- The minimizing of programs sometimes went wrong.
- In some cases programs couldn't be executed from the desktop.
These
bugs were fixed in the latest release. You can download the newest version
at the download page. Note that the newest version
also is a bit faster.
MSX Windows98 (english version) :
There was a small glitch in the install program. The batchfile tries to copy the wrong archive. There are two solutions : Edit the 'install.bat' file and change the following :
- Find the line that says : COPY msxwin98.arj A:\WINDOWSOr download the newest version of MSX Windows98 v1.1e at the download page.
- Change 'msxwin98.arj' into 'msxw98en.arj'
- Save install.bat and run it again. Install should be correct now.
Thanks
to Philip J. Snailham for informing me about it.
The FM Replayer for MSX Windows98 :
If
you try to run it twice or after the Wave Replayer has been active it will
crash the system. Sometimes it returns to BASIC but a total system reset
can also be the result. Cause : the Moonblaster driver. There's some strange
problem with it but I can't seem to find it. I do know it is the oldest
and first version ever released and still full of bugs. Unfortunately there's
no other version available so there's no solution.
MSX Windows98 Tips :
If you have a relatively slow harddisk interface you should try using the Luna cache driver. This programs caches frequently used files in memory. In most cases this will speed up MSX Windows98 significantly. For fast interfaces (Novaxis, Mega SCSI) it doesn't make any difference.
MegaTerm v1.0 / RS232 v1.1 :
The program doesn't work really well with a Panasonic Turbo R. This is due to the incompatibility of the Turbo R with the MSX standard ; The MOTOR command no longer exists. This command is used in both versions of MegaTerm to switch the 7 MHz circuit to lower speeds when necessary. On the Turbo R this results in a program failure. The only way to work around this problem is the remove ALL MOTOR commands from MEGATERM.BAS. This should solve the problem.
MegaTerm Tips :
- You can use the program philmerge to merge the TC-BBS list or the GS-BBS list
into the program.
- Running it from a ramdisk or a harddisk can speedup the program significantly !!
The CyberSpace BBS demo part I :
It
DOES NOT work with DOS2.
This is due to the Moonblasters driver's inability to work in combination
with DOS2. It really hates it.
The CyberSpace BBS demo part II :
This one DOES NOT work WITHOUT DOS2. I don't know why exactly and can't find the problem. I do know the Moonblaster driver is (again!) causing the problem.
Graphic Replayer 1.0 beta :
It
does not support directories yet, but it does work with DOS2. It will probably
never support it since nobody has ever asked for directory support.
Still stuck ?
If you have any other problems, let me know ! I'll get back to you as soon as possible and will update this page with the solution. Feedback and bugfixes are always welcome !
