Man shot in broad daylight

Three motorcycle-borne assailants, two of them armed with pistols, gunned down Kartar Singh Sharma, a relative of a former Haryana Chief Parliamentary Secretary in broad daylight here today. The victim died on the spot and the assailants fled from the scene.

According to reports, Sharma, owner of Central Public School here and relative of Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Roshan Lal Tiwari, was pulled out of his car at Mahadev Colony this morning and shot in the chest from point-blank range, leaving him dead. Following this incident, a large number of people gathered outside the local Civil Hospital, where the body was taken for a post-mortem examination. Mr Ashok Bishnoi, SDM, and Mr Amir Singh, DSP reached there.

It is learnt that the victim was apprehending threat to his life and had informed the police about this. There was resentment among the people and the relatives of the deceased that the police had taken no preventive measure to ensure his safety. A case under Section 302 of the IPC has been registered.

Mr A.S. Chawla, SP, informed mediapersons that the criminals behind this murder had been identified and a number of police parties had been dispatched to arrest the criminals. The deceased was father-in-law of a son of former Haryana Chief Parliamentary Secretary Tiwari, who represented the Kaithal Assembly constituency.
