(New
Delhi, January 27) Three hoodlums shot at the driver of a retired commandant
of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and escaped with the Tata Indica he
was driving on Monday night. The driver, Joginder, has been admitted to Ram
Manohar Lohia Hospital. He is said to be stable. K.K. Handa, deputy
commandant (retd) of the ITBP, had sent Joginder from his Sector 14, Gurgaon
home to the Grand Hotel in Vasant Kunj to drop some guests. “On the way back,
Joginder was stopped at Rajokri by three masked men who forced their way into
the vehicle,” a senior police officer said. “They put countrymade guns to
Joginder’s head and asked him to keep driving towards Gurgaon.” At the IFFCO
crossing, heavy traffic forced Joginder to stop the car. He grabbed the
chance to open the door and jump out, provoking the carjackers to open fire. “Joginder
received two gunshot injuries and collapsed on the road. A passerby took him
to Kalyani Hospital. The carjackers had by then fled with the vehicle,” the
officer said. The Gurgaon police were called in at 12.45 a.m., who informed
the Vasant Kunj police. Joginder has told the police all the men were around
