Faridabad, July 6
(HT Correspondent)
IN A daring dacoity here yesterday, half-a-dozen dacoits, armed with pistols, knives and rods, looted cash and gold worth over Rs 60,000, after locking the inmates inside a room. According to the reports reaching The Hindustan Times, Shiv Kumar Bagga, his wife and their 15-year-old son were sleeping in their house number 81, Sector 37, situated on the Faridabad-Badarpur border. In the wee hours of the morning, the miscreants forced their entry into the house. At gun point they forced the inmates into a room, tied and locked them up. The criminals then ransacked the house at leisure, and decamped with cash, gold and other valuables worth about Rs 60,000. It was in the morning after sunrise that the neighbours of the victims heard the cries and helped release Mr Bagga, his wife and son from their confinement. The police have registered a case under Section 395 IPC and 25, 54, 59 of the Arms Act in the Sector 37 police station. So far the police has got no clues about the identity of the dacoits. Mr K.N. Sharma, vice-president of the Resident Welfare Association of Sector 37, told this correspondent that the residents of the locality, because of its proximity to Delhi and the villages across the Agra Canal, had been vulnerable to criminal elements. After a comparative lull in the crime in this sector, there has been a sudden spurt in burglaries and dacoities during the last two months, ever since the new SHO took over the charge of the police station, he added.
