Police cracks down on vehicles

THE POLICE department has launched a campaign against misuse of red lights and dark tinted glasses on four wheelers in the district. In the last twenty days, more than 900 challans have been issued to owners of vehicles who either misuse red lights or have pasted black films on windows or have not followed directions of authorities regarding display of accurate number plates. The police department's seriousness can be gauged from the fact that the police issued a challan to the brother of the Deputy speaker of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha and local MLA Gopi Chand Gehlot for installing a red light on his vehicle. Mr Gehlot's brother Pappu was issued a challan in their home-town at village Jharsa chowk recently. The police allowed the vehicle to leave after taking the possession of the red light. A challan was also issued to Mukesh Sharma, state general secretary of youth wing of Haryana Vikas Party (Bansi Lal). Mr Mukesh's vehicle has tinted glasses. However, it has been noticed that a lot of senior bureaucrats, politicians and workers of the ruling party, Indian National Lok Dal are using the red lights and tinted glasses on their vehicles illegally. The general tendency of the self-styled VIPs is that they distort the registration number of plates of the vehicles. Some digits are displayed prominently and some digits less prominently. A senior police officer revealed that various heads of departments have illegally installed red lights on their official vehicles. Senior Superintendent of Police Kuldip Singh Siag who took charge of the district recently, told The Hindustan Times that under the constitution, the everybody is equal where the law is concerned. The police department will not budge under pressure, and treat politicians, business tycoons or lay men at par. The SSP observed that criminals used vehicles with tinted-glass to hide themselves. It has also been noticed that some times, in remote areas, they also installed red lights on their vehicles to flee the crime scene, said the officer.
