New Delhi, January 8
The inter-state cell of the Crime Branch has nabbed five dreaded criminals of the Anoop-Narender gang, involved in more than 60 cases of murder, extortion, robbery and kidnapping for ransom, after a brief encounter in the Dwarka area of South-West district last night. The police also recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunitions, including three Chinese pistols, one country-made weapon, six magazines, 62 live cartridges and two fired rounds, from their possession. Uniforms of ASIs of Delhi Police were also seized from the accused persons, who used these dresses to reach their targets.

Acting on a tip-off, the police spotted a silver colour stolen Hyundai car (HR-03-3609) near Netaji Subhash Institute around 8.30 pm last night. When they tried to stop the car, the occupants tried to escape. Two persons — Satish alias Dadhu (29) of Bahadurgarh and Dharmveer alias Jhundha (36) of Rohtak — fired at the police but the latter overpowered them. The other accused — Narender (36) of Kanjhawala, Anil Kumar alias Titu (29) of Hisar and Joginder alias Sunni (23) of Gurgaon, were also nabbed from the spot subsequently.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) U. K. Katna said that two gangs — Narender-Balraj gang and Krishan Pehalwan gang — had a rivalry in the land and building operations, where the Krishan Pehalwan gang has huge stakes. The rift had led to the killings of a number of members of each gang in encounters.
