Youths rob Rs 2 lakh worth of gold
Faridabad, February 17 (HT Correspondent)
A Housewife was robbed of gold ornaments valued at Rs 2 lakh at gun-point, in the presence of a huge crowd at the bustling shopping centre in Sector I, here yesterday. This is the second incident of the type in three days. On February 15, a couple was looted of Rs 2 lakh cash in Sector 28.
The incidents have not only created panic in the business community and general public but have also exposed inefficient police arrangement and inadequacy of the cops to check the spurt in organised crime.
According to sources, Padma Kakkar, wife of Ashok Kakkar, a resident of Sector 9, withdrew gold ornaments, weighing about 500 grams and valued at about Rs 2 lakh from her locker in Dena Bank situated on the Neelam-Bata Road.
Padma was accompanied by her daughter Neetu and niece Rakha. The woman drove her car with the bag of ornaments to the crowded market, parked the car near Hari Om Jewellers shop.
As the women alighted, two unidentified youths in their early twenties waylaid them and tried to snatch the bag containing the ornaments. The women raised an alarm and a crowd gathered around them. But one of the miscreants fired in the air from a pistol to scare away the crowd. As the people ran helter skelter, the man put the pistol to Padma's head, snatched the bag and fled.
The miscreants were seen getting into a Maruti car, DU 7899, parked a little distance away, with a third accomplice at the wheel. The police has registered a case under Section 392, IPC.
