Kidnappers and extortionists traced to Sonepat |

Hindustan Times, January 11, 2001 Police rescue kidnapped businessman from Sonepat HT Correspondent (New Delhi, January 10) A 32-YEAR-OLD businessman was rescued from Sonepat in Haryana by North West District Police within six hours of his abduction from Narela. One person was arrested after a short encounter. Businessman Sameer Jain was returning home in his Maruti Zen last evening when five persons forced his car to stop near his factory in Narela. Four of them entered his car and drove the vehicle to Haryana. The car was kept parked in a feild and three kept him gaurd. Other left the place and at about 4.30 a.m. the abductors decided to release him. He was taken to Piao Manihari and he drove back home. In the meantime, his family in Rohini received a ransom call of Rs 20 lakh. As Sameer's father expressed his inability to pay such a huge amount, the abductors called around 10 p.m. and reducted the ransom amount to Rs one lakh. In the third call, the kidnapper asked them to bring the money to a point in Narela. Around midnight, the kidnappers changed the venue of the receiving the money to Bahalgarh. The police found that the calls were being made from Sameer's mobile phone. A team led by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, North West, Mr Sunil Garg, was formed and reached the venue with the money. Around 3.30 p.m. police noticed a white Maruti car. One person stepped out of the car and took the bag containing the money away. The police teams were alerted and abductors fired a few shots at them. The car sped away at a very high speed and overturned at some distance away. Ravinder, resident of Jajjar, whose arm was fractured in the accident, was caught. He told police that more persons were with him. The bag containing the money was also recovered. |
