Robber gang raids village injuring 5

SONEPAT, June 10 — A gang of six armed robbers struck in the village of Gumar last night looting several houses and fleeing with cash and goods valued at several thousands of rupees. Five persons including three women, were injured when they put up resistance to the robbers. According to preliminary reports, the armed intruders entered the house of Mr Rattan Singh while he and his family members were sleeping. When they awoke and resisted they attacked the family with iron rods and sharp-edged weapons. Mr Rattan Singh grappled with the robbers and, sustained serious injuries. He was later rushed to the Medical College Hospital at Rohtak for treatment and is stated to be out of danger. The armed robbers also attacked woman in another house that of Ramesh Kumar. They injured her before escaping with her gold ornaments worth several thousand rupees. On hearing the hue and cry, a number of residents assembled but were kept at bay with threats. However, one of the residents informed the police on the telephone. By the time the police arrived the robbers had fled. According to eye-witnesses, three of the six robbers were wearing 'kutchhas' and all of them fled towards the nearby fields. The Ganaur police has registered a case and investigations are in progress. The incident has caused panic in the village.
