Kachha baniyan' gang kills Two
From Jatinder Sharma
JHAJJAR, Oct 15 — Tension prevails among residents here after certain members of the notorious "kachha baniyan gang" killed two persons, raped two women and seriously injured nine others in the wee hours today. Agitated over the incident, shopkeepers and residents observed a complete strike and blocked traffic. No vehicle including roadways buses, were allowed to either leave or enter the town. Jeeps of the SDM, the BDO and an executive engineer were overturned by the mob. A group of nearly 200 persons pelted stones on the police station. The police also retaliated by hurling stones on them and ultimately used lathis to disperse crowd. Members of the District Bar Association also went on strike and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, demanding the arrest of the culprits within 24 hours. The Bar has also decided to observe a strike tomorrow and on Monday. The criminals were reportedly armed with iron rods and struck in three localities situated at a distance of half-a kilometre from one another. While intelligence sources and the police say that they were between six to eight persons Mr Ramesh Kumar, whose wife was raped in his presence, put the number at three. They reportedly committed the crimes between 1.30 a.m. and 2.30 a.m. They first entered the house of Shiv Charan situated on Kosli road and hit him in the head with iron rods. He died instantly. Then they attacked his wife and another woman in the house. They later struck at Rewari road and killed Jage Ram in a similar manner. From there, the three of them reportedly went to Delhi road. A woman who saw them, raised the alarm and the criminals "punished" her by raping her. They tied her husband and mother-in-law outside their house and warned her children against informing anyone. The Deputy Commissioner said at least 12 persons suspected to be involved in the crime have been rounded up. He, however, refused to disclose their identity. The situation was brought under control and the blockades lifted after additional police arrived from adjoining districts.

Kachcha baniyan gang strikes again
By A Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: Seven persons, suspected to be from the kachcha baniyan gang, struck at a hutment on a farm and decamped with Rs 10,000 and jewellery after assaulting the family in the Poot Khurd village near Bawana in north west Delhi around midnight on Thursday. Mir Singh, 65, and his two sons Teja, 45, and Daharamvir, 40, were admitted to the hospital and later discharged. ``The assailants attacked with blunt objects assaulting whoever came in their way,'' said the police. The farm is owned by Balraaj and Mir Singh has been working here for the past several years. ``The dacoits fled with all the cash and gold and silver jewellery,'' said the police. The police said it's not certain if it's the kachcha baniyan gang but the modus operandi is similar. Recently, the north west police had arrested a gang of six persons involved in at least seven robberies in the area. Their modus operandi, too, was the same as the kachcha baniyan gang, whose members wear only undergarments and oil their body to make it tough for people to catch and hold them during dacoities. They are all members of the denotified tribes. However, it was found none of the six arrested were from the denotified tribes. They had used the gang's modus operandi just to terrorise people and to ensure nobody offered resistance, the police had said.
