DSP misbehaves with newspersons
Tribune News Service
CHANDIGARH, Jan 5 - Newsmen covering the inaugural function of Haryana Panchayat Bhavan in Sector 28 today, where the Union Rural Development Minister, Mr M. Venkaiah Naidu, and the Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, were present, had to put up with misbehaviour by a Haryana police Deputy Superintendent of Police. When the newsmen wanted to meet Mr Naidu for seeking a clarification on his comments on the constitution of the controversial Gram Vikas Samitis by the Haryana Government, the DSP, Panchkula, Mr Jag Pravesh Dahiya, arbitrarily stopped the entry of some of them to the room in which Mr Naidu along with several others was having tea. Mr Dahiya had earlier allowed certain newsmen to enter the room and talk to Mr Naidu. A Chandigarh police DSP, who was in plain clothes, at the asking of his Panchkula counterpart, even kicked the reporter of a Delhi-based English daily. A message was sent to Mr Ram Singh Brar, Press Adviser to the Haryana Chief Minister. Mr Brar came to the door, but turned his back on the newsmen. Interestingly, after entry to the newsmen was denied, several workers of the INLD and the BJP were allowed to go in.
