Gang of thieves headed by cop busted, 9 held
New Delhi, March 3 (HT Correspondent)
A GANG of inter-state thieves, led by a commando of the Haryana Police, was busted today in the Capital. Nine persons, including the commando, have been arrested and a large consignment of stolen motorcycle tyres and tubes recovered from them. The commando is currently posted at the Naval Commando complex in Karnal. The gang members were nabbed this morning after police intercepted a tempo in which the thieves were heading towards Jama Masjid with the stolen booty. The tempo, according to police, was speeding down Mahatma Gandhi Road, where the police party had placed a picket after receiving a tip-off. Roshan Lal, the serving commando, is reported to have organised the loot of a truck belonging to the Mahabir Transport Limited in Udyog Nagar, Haryana. This transport company, it is reported, had earlier booked a consignment of tyres and tubes from the Hyderabad office of Apollo tyres, destined for Jaipur. The gang got a tip-off of this transaction with the help of Roshan Lal's cousin brother Kale, who works in the company. Accordingly, the truck was hijacked, the consignment stolen and the vehicle abandoned near Udyog Vihar. The accused were produced before the court of the Metropolitan Magistrate and have been remanded to two days in police custody.
