Probe assault on scribe, CBI told

KARNAL, March 22 — The Haryana Government has requested the CBI to enquire into a case relating to alleged assault on Mr Parveen Kumar, local correspondent of the Dainik Mazdoor Morcha of Faridabad. The State Government has sent the case to the CBI on a complaint made by the National Human Rights Commission vide their letter No. 7/24/96-LD dated July 24, 1998, on the complaint of Mr. Parveen Kumar. The journalist had represented to the commission that the police was not taking any action on his complaint registered vide FIR No. 1115, dated December 4, 1996, in police station city Karnal. The case was registered under Sections 307 and 34, IPC and also under the Arms Act in the city police station.
In the complaint, Mr Parveen Kumar had alleged that he was attacked by some goons at the instance of some senior police officials. It was further alleged in the representation to the commission that the police was not conducting a proper inquiry into the case under pressure from some high-ups in the police.
The commission had referred the matter to the Haryana Government. As per a confidential letter written by the Financial Commissioner and the Secretary the state government has appealed to the Union Home Ministry to issue instructions to the CBI in this connection. The state government has also requested for immediate investigation in the case.
