Crime rate goes down in Haryana

CHANDIGARH, Jan 11 - Compared to last year, 395 cases were recorded less at the police stations in Haryana during the current year, Mr M.S. Malik, DGP of Haryana, told this to the Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, at a meeting of DCs and SPs held here today. There was 50 per cent reduction in kidnapping cases and 3 per cent decrease in crime against humanity, Mr Malik said. He added that Haryana had attained 60 per cent success in recovery of stolen property.
Mr Malik also informed the Chief Minister that 337 gangs involved in robbery were arrested in the current year. About 193 proclaimed offenders and 1,167 bail jumpers were also arrested under a special campaign launched by the state police last month. Some officials engaged in pilfering money were also caught, he added.
The state Vigilance Bureau had registered cases against 599 officers and recommended Rs 182 crore for recovery from these officers.
