Robbers re-emerge on highway

Chandigarh, January 11. Panic has spread among businessmen of Haryana transporting their goods to other states following the re-emergence of robbers on National Highway no. 1.

According to reports received here, three days ago highway robbers not only took away the goods but also the truck in which these were being carried to Amritsar from Ambala on the GT Road near Kartarpur in Jalandhar district. The truck, being driven by Ishwar Chand, belonged to Mahavir Rice Mills, Ambala city. It was stated to be carrying rice worth about Rs 2 lakh. A few years ago highway robbers were active on the Haryana portion of the GT Road and a number of trucks were hijacked. The menace was curbed following the introduction of highway patrolling.
