Woman assaulted near Jhajjar

16 held for assault

(Rohtak, January 21) The Jhajjar District police on Tuesday booked 16 persons, including a few women, on charges of rioting, assault, attempt to murder, molestation and trespassing after they allegedly attacked a woman and other members of her family in Chandol Village under Salhawar police station on Monday evening.

According to the police, two of the accused allegedly accosted a Suraj Kaur when she was returning home after fetching water from a well on Monday at around 5 p.m. When a nephew of Suraj came to her rescue, he was also thrashed by the duo. Subsequently, all the accused, armed with lathis and sharp-edged farm implements barged into the victims' house and assaulted her family. One of them also fired a shot. The house was ransacked. The police have registered a case and have started investigations into the matter.
