Man shot dead at point-blank range

Ambala, January 11. Close on the heels of a woman being murdered and her body dumped in a bed box, a man was shot at in broad daylight at Ambala Cantonment this afternoon.

The incident took place at about 1.15 pm outside Annapurna snacks bar and billiards room located near Indra Chowk, Ramesh Duggal (38) was shot at point blank range in his head when he was standing outside the billiards room.

He was reportedly shot at by two unidentified youths. The two youths then escaped, on a motor cycle. Ramesh Duggal’s six-year-old son was with him at the time of shooting.

After being shot at, Ramesh Duggal lay in a pool of blood outside the billiards room. He was taken to the Civil Hospital, Ambala Cantonment.

He was later taken to the PGI, Chandigarh, where he died. The postmortem will be performed tomorrow.

SP Sandeep Khirwar, who was at the spot, said that Ramesh Duggal was a history sheeter. “He was involved in gambling. We are looking into various aspects of the case.” he said.

The police is believed to have taken a visitors, book into its possession.

The visitors' book of the billiards room contained names of the customers.

The scooter of Ramesh Duggal has also been taken into possession. The police is investigating the shooting incident. Nakas have also been set up.

The shooting incident has shocked the local residents who have expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation. On January 8, Sudesh Abrol, wife of a doctor, was murdered in Shastri Colony.

Her body was dumped inside a bed box by the assailants.

One identified in shoot-out case

Ambala, January 12. The district police is believed to have identified one of the two assailants who shot dead a history-sheeter at point-blank range yesterday.

Two youths escaped on a motorcycle after shooting Ramesh Duggal in front of Annapurna snack bar and billiards room near Indra Chowk. Investigations by the police led to a youth who had earlier been nabbed in a robbery case.

Sources said that one of the assailants was suspected to be a youth who was arrested last year in a robbery case. The other associate was still to be identified. The two youths were not the customers of the billiard room.

SP Sandeep Khirwar, said that police was hopeful of solving the case soon.

Ramesh Duggal (38) was shot at point range when he was standing outside the billards room.

His son was present with him at the time of the incident. He died on away to the PGI, Chandigarh.
