Encryption Plus is a handy utility designed to encrypt and decrypt text messages.
You can also use this program to send email to a person. The email you send can either be
encrypted or not.
Below is a short tutorial on how to use Encrypt Plus. Due to problems with our server, we had
to split the file into two parts. So, please click the two links below to download the whole thing.
When you unzip the two files, make sure you put them in the same folder. After you have unzipped
both of these files, you will need to run the program setup.exe, so remember where you unzipped
the files.
If this is your first time using this program, you need to click on Options, and then select Edit Configuration.
NOTE:If you do not do this step, this program may not work properly for you!
Here is what will appear when you have the selected to Edit your configuration:
Here are the important things to note: Email server address is the POP3 account address. It is usally in the form mail.server.net. Your
email address. This is the complete email address of your POP3 email account, me@server.net. You also need to set the save to path. You
can keep the default path or choose a new one. The save to path is the path the documents you save and open in this program will come from
and go to.
Now that you have your system configured, press ok, and you should be back at the first screen. Now, lets say you want to write a letter, encrypt it,
and send it to your friend. How do you do it? Simple. Type your letter in the space provided on the first form (where the cursor is blinking). Next,
Hit the encrypt key. You will be prompted for a password. You can type any password, any combination of letters and numbers, just don't forget it. Now,
You will see your message change into what appears to be garbage. This is your encrypted text. You may hit the encrypt button as many times as you like, and
each time it will encrypt whatever is on the screen. Please note, that if you do this and send the message as an email, tell your friend how many times you
encrypted it. I will explain why in a few seconds.
Now that you have encrypted the letter, you can do one of two things, or both. You can save what you have encrypted, or you can send it as email. Let's look at
saving the file, first. All you need to do is select the file menu, and choose Save Document. Then, just type a name that you want this document to be called,
hit enter, and it is saved. To retrieve this document, or any other saved document later, choose file, then Open Document, and type that file's name. Selecting New
will clear out all the contents in the message section.
So, now you've saved your work, lets send it as email. Click the Send Email button. Here is what appears:
The first two boxes are already filled in with your email information. The third box, Mail To is empty. To add people to the Mail To list, click the add butotn,
type their email address, and hit ok. To erase an email addres, highlight the person, and click the remove button.
Once you've add your recipients, you need to tell them what the subject is, and then you're ready to send. Press the Send button, now.
Watch the Status boxes on the far right to see the progress of your email's being sent.
A NOTE ON EMAIL ENCRYPTION USED BY THIS PROGRAM
The person you send an encrypted message to using this program, will receive a TEXT ONLY email. They will simply need to cut-and-paste the contents of the email
message into their copy of Encryption Plus, hit the Decrypt button, and then they will be able to see what you sent them. It is a good idea to tell the person
you are sending the email to how many times you hit the Encrypt button, so they will know how many times to hit the Decrypt button. EMAIL IS THE ONLY TIME YOU
WILL NEED TO MANUALLY HIT THE DECRYPT MORE THAN ONCE IF A MESSAGE HAS BEEN MULTIPLE ENCRYPTED.
Now lets talk about Decryption for a moment. Lets say you have a saved, encrypted file that you want to decrypt. Load Encrypt Plus, select File, and choose Open
Document. Type the name of the file, and then hit enter. The file's encrypted contents will appear in the message area. Now, hit the Decrypt button. You will be
prompted for the password of this file. Type it in, and press enter. The file is now decrypted.
