EUDORA LIGHT CONFIGURATION FOR SHELL/TERMINAL ACCESS

Eudora Light is a mail cleint software from QUALCOMM Inc.

With Eudora Light you can compose and read your mail offline. It has the
queing feature which with you can send and receive multiple mails. Also it
has many other features as in Netscape mail or Microsoft mail.

It can be configured for both terminal(shell) and tcpip(ppp) connection.
For tcpip connection the configuration process is very easy;but with shell access
one has to write tedious scripts to make it work! But once it has written
you enjoy the benefits of eudora light.

For VSNL subscirbers i have written the navigation script which works
successfully with atleast MUMBAI subscribers.

EUDORA LIGHT:AN EMAIL CLIENT SOFTWARE.

For using Eudora Light you must have

What is a pop account?

Your POP account is the address that tells Eudora where to go to download your new mail. POP accounts look a lot like e-mail addresses, but they often have an extra word after the @, or are otherwise slightly different.

Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or company/university may have given you a "POP3 server" or "incoming mail server" address. In that case, your POP account is the first part of your e-mail address, then an @, then the "POP3" or "incoming mail" server.

For example, if your incoming (POP3) mail server were giasbma.vsnl.net.in, and your e-mail address were sac@giasbma.vsnl.net.in, your POP account would be
sac@giasbma.vsnl.net.in
.In this case the mail address is itself a pop account address.

But if your mail service provider is other than your ISP company, for example Hotmail, then your pop address would look different. In this case if your email address is sac@hotmail.com,then your pop account would be
sac@pop.hotmail.com
Other examples of POP accounts:
sacbag@giasbma.vsnl.net.in
sacbag@popd.ix.netcom.com
sacbag@pop.netaddress.usa.net
Your ISP can tell you what your POP account is if you have doubts. Your ISP/company/university may have given you an information sheet when you got your account with them, with this information on it.

What is a SMTP server?

SMTP stands for 'simple mail transfer protocol'. Your SMTP server is what Eudora contacts to send your outgoing mail. Your Internet Service Provider may call this an "outgoing mail server.
It would look something like these examples:

giasbmc.vsnl.net.in
mailhost.worldnet.att.net
smtp.ix.netcom.com
smtp.dagobah.com
mail.tatooine.org
alderaan.net
Note that there's no @ in the SMTP setting.
Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) can tell you what your SMTP server is. Your ISP/company/university may have given you an information sheet when you got your account with them, with this information on it.

VSNL subscriber can get SMTP server address from the users guide. But mostly the server name itself is enough to identify the SMTP server. For example for an email address sac@giasbma.vsnl.net.in, the SMTP server address is:
giasbma.vsnl.net.in
