Masked Embossed Background


We will create the effect of A Masked Background
This is the graphic I am using for this tutorial
To use the same one for this tutorial, just right click and save to your Desktop




You will also need the Mask images I use below, right click on the one below and save to your masks folder.



This mask You need to download the zip file and unzip to your masks folder
Download it here




Open the image You want to work
with or the image You saved , and both of the mask images in PSP


Click on your main graphic to highlight it
Go to shift D and make a duplicate copy. We will use this one later


Then go to Masks/New/from image




Scroll and select the muted.jpg mask image in the scroll window box


Masks Invert

This is the effect You should now see




Close the muted.jpg graphic you used for the mask.

We are finished with it

Click on the image that has the mask applied to it.

Mine is called Bluejay

Now go to Effects/Plugins or the directory where your plugins are located



And Select FM Tools/ Blend Emboss

and use these settings


Now go to Effects/Plugins/FM Tools/Seamless






Leave unchecked and apply


Again go to Effects/Plugins/FM Tools/Seamless




Select Vertical and apply


Select Layers/Merge all Flatten

You should now have a seamless background image


Let's open a new image 1024 x Height of the image You are using (Mine is 220 Height)Color Transparent




Select your Styles tool, click on the black arrow and select the pattern option






Double Click on the texture fill and scroll to your image You applied the mask and embossing too .
Mine is the bluejay image I have highlighted and select it




Select the flood fill tool




Now left click on your 1024 image that You opened to flood fill it.


This is what your new background should look like after flood filling




Now go to Layers/merge all flatten


Still working on our background.  Select Layers/New Raster Layer/Click OK and flood fill this layer with white.


Open your Layer Palette by clicking on L

Slide the slider bar on the right to lower the opacity

I usually set my opacity to 50. Select Layers/Merge All Flatten.

Select the main image we duplicated earlier


Choose Masks /New From Image and select the 1fadebgmsk in the scroll window as we did above. Click OK


ChooseMask/Invert.


Select Masks/Delete and say Yes to delete the mask.


WhileImage is still selected choose Edit/Copy,
Now click on your background and


Edit/Paste As A New Layer.


Position it on the left making sure that it is lined up.

Effect/Plugins/Fm Tile Tools/Seamless and select vertical with default settings. Click OK.

Layers/Merge/Merge All Flatten




Save as a .jpg. This makes a great full background scroll for stationery
