I N F O S

This section is going to be all about miniDVD, and I'm hoping to make it up-to-date ;)

What the hell is miniDVD? Well, to cut it short, miniDVD is a disc with the same file structure as DVD-Video but is only 650mb in size. The primary goal is to put trailers or demos for example on a CDR and make it look like a DVD with menus etc.
Another possibility using miniDVD is by putting ripped movies on it. The big advantage over normal VCD is that the miniDVD is MPEG-2 encoded and has AC-3 sound. The video resolution is the same as VCD so that one movie fits on two or three CDRs.

The story about the Silver Disc or How to play a miniDVD on a standalone DVD Player: In order to play the self made miniDVD, a standalone player must be able to read a CDR. A lot of players have difficulty playing these kind of discs, either it's cdda, vcd or miniDVD. The reason they dont play is to do with perceived track density at the laser head which is a combination of focus of the laser - nanometers- and spin speed of the disc. Thus a miniDVD spinning at 6 or 8 times should work - however most domestic machines are 2nd generation (4x) which explains why they work on computer dvdrom but not on domestic. It should be possible to replace the drive mechanism in a domestic with - you guessed it - a computer dvdrom drive - surely this would make sense since they can't be that different. Maybe any electronic dudes out there can comment - a 6x dvdrom costs about 50 sterling in the uk - thus the mod to a domestic is within reach of us all.
Silver discs become sound economic sense for small production runs of around 1000 and if they can hold dvd quality then that is obviously the way to go for the small production studio. So here comes the big question: Has anyone made a correctly formatted silver disc miniDVD which plays on all players?

Currently there is only one player that plays CDR-burned miniDVD. Here's a list of players that work/don't work.

How do I make miniDVDs? For this please check Robshot's miniDVD faq. It's not easy and you'll need lots of software.

I don't know what all the extensions stand for. Well this is one of the first problems i had. Here's a short summary.
