Refill Guide
Some How-Tos on Refilling Ink Carts

14 January 1999 .  Welcome to this section dedicated to refilling tips and hints. With cost of original carts dropping these days, refilling seems to be too much trouble for too little cost savings. There are fears that refilling with inferior inks may increase problems of clogging. However, refilling is a necessary step in using specialised inks such as Quadtones and Archival inksets which simply aren't available from Epson. Here are some resources on refilling (aka reinking). Use with care.

The Ultimate "Ultimate" Refilling Method. DoItYourself
24 February 1999 Here's Dirk Engelhardt with his refill method dubbed The "ultimate" Ultimate Refill method. It's simple, elegant and really makes me want to rush out and get a syringe! Pity I don't have the ink to go with the syringe. Do take part in my Refill Survey as well..

Another Bulletin Board on Refilling.Bulletin Board
24 February 1999 - My thanks to Ross Hartley who dropped a note at my guestbook where he points out another bulletin board dedicated to ink refilling which is part of  WWW.rra.com.auhome of Ausjet Ink Jet Supplies (another Aussie site).

A Forum for Refillers.Bulletin Board
22 February 1999 Stumbled upon Stroudco.com (an Aussie site) one day while browsing. It's a site billed as "a resource centre for inkjet refillers". It also has a bulletin board dedicated to discussions on refilling. This site and its content are not Epson-specific. Pretty informative site with lots of info. Check it out.

Bob Buttery's Cleaning Method.A Tip to Get Rid of Banding

9 March 1998 - Bob Buttery of Bryce LandscapeS has posted a excellent page at his site on "How to cure banding on Epson Stylus Printers".  Well, I tried Bob's fix without removing the lid at all. Here's how I did it on the Photo EX. Epson Germany has similar (somewhat) cleaning tips for the 400/800 which involves the use of a kleenex slightly moistened with mild detergent water. Just a final word...please use Bob's tip and my mod at your own risk! Be sure not to use excessive force. A cautionary note: BE CAREFUL that you do not upset the waste pad/sponge which is mounted on 4 springs. This cleaning procedure is only recommended if you have nothing to lose..otherwise you may jeopardise (void) your warranty if you don't know what you are doing.

MIS Archival Inks - One User's Experience.19 March 1999
Check out the short note on one user's experience with the MIS archival inks
Read the Article
Testing of the Stylus 900 with MIS Archival Inks: Bob Zeiss of MIS Associates also just dropped me a short note on their current testing of the 900 "By the way, we have tested the Epson

900 with our archival inks and they work just fine.  The jet diameters are still more than 30 times larger than our largest pigment particles.  The 3.5 picoliter delivery system does not translate to a smaller jet diameter, just a shorter column of ink.  Plus, we find that they have changed their filters to a mesh type rather than a the sintered type.  Filtration level is about the same or less (bigger pores)."

I got some MIS Archival inks myself and will be testing it soon.
