There's nothing magical about the stylus that came with your pilot. Any pointed object that won't scratch plastic will do. I sometimes use a pen that has a retracting point. My all time favorite is my index finger nail. Sure, I have to hold my hand in an odd position after I trim my nails, but it's always in hand and I have yet to lose it…

The Cross stylus pen is just a normal pen with a stylus cartridge. These cartridges can't be bought at your local retail store- they must be ordered straight from Cross. The cost is $5, and can be ordered from 1-800-AT-CROSS.
