Yep, the official Pilot Modem cable is nothing fancy. The only hard part to building your own is getting an edge-card connector like the one in the cradle. So why not use the cradle? Here's the pinouts for an adapter from the cradle's 9-pin female connector to a modem's 25-pin female serial.

If anyone has knows of a company that sells the 10 pint edge card connector, please drop me a note!
