Software: How InstallApp Installs
The InstallApp that comes with the Pilot doesn't document how exactly it works. It's a rather clumsy utility, and can't be automated. Ah, but there is an undocumented way to install applications yourself.
- Copy your *.PRC files to "C:\pilot\[user]\Install"
- Set a flag in the registry: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm Computing\Pilot Desktop\HotSync Manager] Install6878"=dword:00000001
The number "6878" is unique for each Pilot user- it's probably stored in the "users.dat" file. (Anyone decipher this file yet?) This number can be displayed on the Pilot using the ".4" dot command. This can be done from the DOS command line or a batch file. Download this file, then run the command "regedit /i pilot1.reg". Don't forget to edit the file with your unique ID!
